His Encouragement #271

Welcome to His Encouragement Thursday! I don’t know about you, but Thursdays are my struggle day of the week. By Thursday, I have already been working hard at school and at home, and I just wish it would hurry up and be Friday already. LOL! I definitely need a little extra Jesus time on Thursdays.

Psalm 35 is an AWESOME psalm. It is written by David, and it is a call to God to gear up and fight David’s enemies. I love the idea of God putting on His whole armor and fighting the bullies that come against us. But I also love that big, strong, mighty David understands that he is nothing without God. David is a battle-hardened warrior, but he doesn’t ask God to give him might to fight against his enemies. No, instead David cries out to God to do the fighting for him.

Psalm 35 humbled me this read around.

So many times, I ask God, I beg Him, to give me the strength and ability to fight my dragons on my own. It doesn’t even dawn on me that maybe I should be giving these dragons over to Him and asking God to fight for me. Jesus is my Savior, but too often I rush in to save myself thinking that a quick “see me through, Jesus” is good enough. And then I’m shocked when things don’t go my way. I mean, technically I prayed (for all of ten seconds). Shouldn’t that have been enough? But David proves in psalm 35 that a quickly uttered prayer, rushing into a problem, and then doing things my way isn’t enough. Most of the time, my problems can only be solved by giving them completely over to God and allowing Him to suit up on my behalf.

Perhaps, dear reader, this message resonates with you, too?

Today, I’m grateful that we have a most excellent Father in Heaven who is ready to fight for us. Thank You, Yahweh, for fighting our battles for us. For wanting to fight our battles for us. You truly are a GOOD, GOOD Abba!

  1. I’m so glad that God is always ready to fight our battles with us or for us, even when we are too tired or discouraged to continue fighting. I am encouraged by Psalm 118:14: “The Lord is my strength and song and he has become my salvation.”
