My Thoughts

Bounty Beyond Reason is my first Kari Trumbo novel, but it most definitely will not be my last. This book is FANTASTIC! It has so much action and passion that I could not put the book down. When I had to, I did it begrudgingly! This story is so engaging, the characters are well written, and the romance is perfect. The villains are quite awful, and when justice is served I was left quite satisfied.

Hannah is the main character, and she is feisty and exceptionally brave. I appreciate that she isn’t a stereotypical “weak” woman who needs her fainting couch. Instead, Hannah is a fighter. She doesn’t see herself as small and helpless. She sees herself as capable and strong. There is a fabulous moment where Cort comes to Hannah’s defense as if she were this typical fainting female of the 1800s, but Hannah stops him in his tracks and says, “I don’t think you understand just how strong we women are.” Then she thinks to herself, “He couldn’t know how many times she’d bruised her shoulder learning how to aim [her] rifle, or how many nights she’d shivered, laying against her horse for warmth. Women were resourceful, not weak.” By the time I finished reading this paragraph I cheered out loud. I love when literature illustrates a realistic, fully feminine, strong, determined, capable woman. In this day and age, our daughters definitely need more characters like Hannah in their reading material to illustrate a good role model. Hannah is this and more, and I will gladly give this novel to my daughter when she is of the appropriate age.

In addition to Hannah’s excellent character, I also really love and appreciate the timely message found in Bounty Beyond Reason. There is a moment where Cort is drawn to chapel. He needs a moment of peace and quiet. It is at this point that Cort realizes he has been working alone to find his path in life. He has turned from God in the belief that only weak people need God to take care of things for them. The absolute best part is that Cort comes to understand that while he may have been wrong in his past and shunned God from his life, it didn’t mean he couldn’t turn things around for his future and ask God for forgiveness in the present. I love this message! It is NEVER too late to seek God. No one on this earth is beyond saving because God is that BIG and CAPABLE that he can save us no matter our conditions.

Bounty Beyond Reason is a wonderful novel. I am so glad that I took the time to read this highly engaging story. If you are looking for a clean, romantic, Christian Western with tons of action, a sweet romance, and a timely message then this novel is for you. Purchase Bounty Beyond Reason today.
