Mr. Baron and the boys head to the marketing board’s booth, while Mrs. Baron and I follow the vendor map to find ours. The set-up crew did a great job. There’s green AstroTurf down, and we have several board members grilling watermelon on the spot. Large banners hang on each side of our display with the words “Midwest Watermelon Association” in bright red. Tables are set up with red and white checkered tablecloths. Mrs. Baron’s special watermelon salsa gets dolloped on top, so I can hand it out to the people milling around the convention center. The main goal for today is to let people see how versatile the fruit really is. I’ve been smiling and talking to people with Mrs. Baron all morning when Warren stops by. I can’t stop my eyes from lighting up, giving away just how happy I am to see him.
