His Encouragement #267

Welcome to His Encouragement Thursday! I don’t know about you, but Thursdays are my struggle day of the week. By Thursday, I have already been working hard at school and at home, and I just wish it would hurry up and be Friday already. LOL! I definitely need a little extra Jesus time on Thursdays.

Psalm 55 is titled “Cast Your Burden on the LORD.” In this psalm, David is begging God to hear his prayers, to hear his cries. David is surrounded by evil and violence and he just can’t take it anymore. He tells God that he is in anguish and is afraid. Fear and trembling have entered his heart, and he feels incredibly overwhelmed. It is at this point that David states he wishes he were a bird who could simply fly away from it all.

I absolutely love that David — mighty, strong, king David — asks God to give him wings like a bird so he could fly away and find rest from the world. And he is not picky. David is fine with fleeing to the wilderness just to get away from the insanity that surrounds him.

I’ve felt like David before. In fact, I’ve wished that God would make me a well-love house puppy so that I could take a nap and be left alone for a time. I’ve wished that God would give me wings so I could fly away from all that Life likes to throw at me. It’s not that I want to be an animal. It’s that I just need a break, but this world absolutely refuses to allow me one. I do not work an easy job, and taking a day off is usually harder than just suffering through another day in my classroom. People talk so much about self-care, but they don’t mean it. They say, “You’ve got to take care of you, so you can be the best you possible,” but they definitely don’t allow the space to do so.

So what do we do when we feel this way? When we want to get into our cars and drive far, far away from the insanity surrounding us?

According to the wisdom of David, we “call to God, and the LORD will save” (v. 16). We cast our burdens on God every morning, evening, and noon-time. We bare our souls to God. We “cast [our burdens] on the LORD, and [know that] He will sustain [us]” (v. 22).

When we feel like fleeing our lives, fleeing this world, remember that God is the Boss and He has control over everything. As David states in the final verse of Psalm 55, we trust in GOD. God knows what we are up against. He’s just waiting to see who we turn to — Him, or the world. When we feel like fleeing, the only answer is to run to God, and run to Him as fast as we can!

NOW, IT’S YOUR TURN!

WHAT BIBLICAL VERSE IS ENCOURAGING YOU TODAY?
