His Encouragement #188

Welcome to His Encouragement Thursday! I don’t know about you, but Thursdays are my struggle day of the week. By Thursday, I have already been working hard at school and at home, and I just wish it would hurry up and be Friday already. LOL! I definitely need a little extra Jesus time on Thursdays.

Trust in Him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us.

Psalm 62:8 ESV

All of Psalm 62 is excellent. If you have never read it, or it’s been a while, I recommend reading it in its entirety. But for today’s post I wanted to quickly break down verse 8.

Verse 8 may be my most favorite line in this psalm. It’s SO amazingly beautiful.

Verse 8 begins with a command from David: Trust God at all times. That means every second of every single day, trust God. Trust Him when the days are good and when they are bad. Trust Him when things are going well and when they are not. Trust Him when there is peace and when there is not. Trust Him when He has you in a safe place and when you are exposed. Trust Him when He feels near and when He feels far, far away. Just. Trust. God.

What is trust? According to the dictionary, trust is a “firm belief in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something.” So, trusting in God means that you are FIRM in your belief that He is ALWAYS reliable, truthful, able, and strong. Is God reliable, truthful, able, and strong? If you FIRMLY say yes to all four of these characteristics, then you most likely trust in God.

The second command David gives in this verse is for God’s people to pour out our hearts to Him. I absolutely love the imagery here. Our emotional hearts are like vessels. We keep our deepest secrets, fears, worries, feelings in these vessels. If you have a FIRM trust in God and you are one of His kiddos, He wants to know everything in your heart. He wants you to pour out everything to Him. Leave nothing hidden. Just say it to Him. Truth is, He already knows. But what He also knows that the pouring out of our hearts to Him leads us to a godly peace and healing. It also proves a solid relationship with God. And who doesn’t want a solid relationship with Him?!

The final segment of this verse wraps up all these commands with a simple fact: God is our refuge. He is our place of comfort and safety and love and peace. Trust God, give Him your whole heart, and He will give you a safe space to hide and rest. I don’t know about you, but that sounds like a pretty good deal to me!

NOW, IT’S YOUR TURN!

WHAT BIBLICAL VERSE IS ENCOURAGING YOU TODAY?

  1. I enjoyed your exposition of the word “trust.” Too often, I have thought that I am fully trusting in God, but instead I am trusting people (doctors, friends, etc.) and hope that God will fall in line, too. Trusting God is always first! Trust was my word for the year last year and I love your verse choice!

    1. Thank you, Vickie, for reading my post. I, too, struggle with trust. I think I’m doing everything right, and then God shows me that I need a little work. I’m a work in progress! 😀 Good thing His mercies are new every morning! Hope you have a good day.
