I, Holiday Brown, have it all. A platinum record. Multi-million dollar home in Manhattan that I share with my two best friends. Life is looking fantastic until my roommate’s brother decides to bunk in our guestroom while his house gets renovated.

W. Emmett Bell has always been the bane of my existence. He’s annoying, stubborn, a know it all, and just might be the most gorgeous man I’ve ever laid eyes on. But I refuse to fall for him. Then his sister’s threatened by a stalker and dynamics change. His unwavering faith isn’t quite as self-righteous as I’d always thought, and maybe he has a good side I’ve overlooked all these years.

Or maybe it’s all too much trouble.

My Thoughts

The Trouble With Love by Toni Shiloh is a super fun, super sweet Christian Chick Lit story. This is the first novel I’ve read by Ms. Shiloh, but it will definitely not be my last. I found the plot light and fast-paced. I blew through the pages of this story! I love the characters. They are believable and relatable, and they are also all very unique. I look forward to getting to know them better in books 2 and 3. And, I found the messages timely and relatable. All in all, The Trouble With Love is a Contemporary Romance I highly recommend.

The Trouble With Love follows Holiday Brown, a platinum-album recording artist who follows in her father’s artistic footsteps. However, this is about the only way she follows in her father’s ways. He’s quite the self-focused man, and he hasn’t really been the greatest of fathers or husbands. In fact, he’s on wife number 10, and at 30, Holiday still has never had a single boyfriend. Why? Because she doesn’t know what love is or looks like. Enter Waldorf Emmett Bell, her best friend’s older brother. Emmett has been the most consistent man in her life, but he’s driven Holiday crazy for as long as she can remember. Is Emmett the man of Holiday’s dreams? She doesn’t even know what real love looks like so how could she consider someone the one? I very much enjoyed watching Holiday’s journey as she struggles with and eventually comes to understand some of the big-deal issues such as who God is, what actual love looks like, and how to trust others. Holiday is a super relatable character not because of her many platinum records or her super fancy house or her many fans, but because she illustrates the same struggles we all wrestle with. We all have to figure out who God is and how we can relate to Him in our daily lives. We all struggle with love. We’re super good on crushes and lust and passion, but real love?! That’s definitely an issue many of us struggle to understand for most of our lives. And, trust!? That, I think, may be the most difficult issue to tackle of them all especially if you have been hurt multiple times in the past. Trust is hard!!! But, as Holiday discovers, when we are in a right, solid relationship with Jesus, we can tackle all of these issues and more knowing that He is there for us and with us, and He will NEVER let us down. What an excellent message to share with readers today!

The Trouble With Love is a sassy and fun read. I had a great time getting to know Holiday and Emmett and all the other characters in this book. If you are looking for a really good Chick Lit story filled with fun and endearing characters, an engaging story line, and timely messages then The Trouble With Love is the book for you!
