The Captive Heart by Michelle Griep was the first novel I ever read by this author. It was the book that made Griep a must-read author for me. Since this novel, I have devoured seven more of her books, and I am currently reading Griep’s latest novel, The House at the End of the Moor.

So, why did I love The Captive Heart so much? Because it is so well written the pages fly by. It’s a fast-paced, adventure story with a sweet love story included. The characters are well written. The setting is beautiful. The action is nonstop. Overall, this is a historical fiction novel I highly recommend.

About the Book

Proper English governess Eleanor Morgan flees to the colonies to escape the wrath of an angry duke. When the Charles Town family she’s to work for never arrives to collect her from the dock, she is forced to settle for the only reputable choice remaining to her—marriage to a man she’s never met.

Trapper and tracker Samuel Heath is a hardened survivor used to getting his own way by brain or by brawn, and he’s determined to find a mother for his young daughter. But finding a wife proves to be impossible. No upstanding woman wants to marry a murderer.
