His Encouragement #61

Good morning, and welcome to His Encouragement Thursday! I don’t know about you, but Thursdays are my struggle day of the week. By Thursday, I have already been working hard at school and at home, and I just wish it would hurry up and be Friday already. LOL! I definitely need a little extra Jesus time on Thursdays.

Trisha, my blogger friend at Joy of Reading, and I decided on calling this post “His Encouragement” because our real source of peace, strength, and security can only come from Jesus Christ. He, and He alone, is our constant! We pray and hope that these Thursday posts become a real encouragement to you and help you end your week strong in God’s love and purpose for you. God bless!

Today’s Thursday Encouragement comes from:

Psalm 27:5 (ESV)

For He will hide me in His shelter in the day of trouble; He will conceal me under the cover of His tent; He will lift me high upon a rock.

God’s Word is cool.

I know that is colloquial, but it’s the truth. God’s Word is cool!

Psalm 27 is one of my most favorite Psalms penned by David. In this Psalm, David opens by stating: “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” (1). I love David’s confidence. If Yahweh is our center, if Yeshua is our rock, what do any of us have to fear on this earth?

Many of David’s Psalms were written during a time when he was constantly besieged by enemies. And, Psalm 27 is no exception. David is surrounded by “evildoers” who want to “eat up [his] flesh,” and armies “encamped against him” (2,3). But the one thing he wants more than anything is to be with God in God’s House. David longs to live in the Tent so daily he can gaze “upon the beauty of the Lord” (4). David knows that in God’s House is true safety. If you’re with God NOTHING can harm you.

Here’s a really cool fact about Psalm 27:5 — it’s prophetic. David wouldn’t get to live in God’s Tent, but someone else would!

Around 842 B.C., Judah was ruled by a king named Ahaziah. Ahaziah was a wicked king, and God allowed him only one year of rule. His mother, Athaliah, took over Judah in 841 B.C. after she learned of her son’s death, and went on a killing spree. Her intent was to kill every royal in the line of David because she did not want David’s line to grow stronger than her father’s line (her dad was King Ahab of Israel). However, Ahaziah’s sister, Jehosheba, kidnapped his two-year old son, Joash, from the nursery and hid the baby for six years in the attic of the Holy of Holies (the Temple). You see, Athaliah worshiped Bael. She didn’t think to look for a baby in God’s Temple because she didn’t care one wit about God’s Temple. Thus, a quick-thinking woman saved the line of David by hiding a helpless babe in God’s House. When Joash was eight years old, he was lifted up as King of Judah.

This is what it says about Joash: “Joash did what was proper in the eyes of the Lord all his days, what Jehoiada the priest instructed him” (II Kings 12:3). You know why Joash did what was proper in the eyes of the Lord? Because he was concealed in God’s Tent and the High Priest raised him up. Joash lived the life David prophesied in Psalm 27. Isn’t this awesome?!

Why is this comforting to me today? Because this is proof of God’s Word in action. If we commit ourselves to God, He will commit Himself to our safety and protection, which includes our family generations. If we “seek His Face,” God will show us His Face (Psalm 27:8). It may not be in the time we deem appropriate, but it will happen. And when it does, it will be in God’s perfect, awesome timing. So David didn’t get to live in God’s physical Tent when he was alive, but his great (x6) grandson would be protected by and raised in God’s Temple. This guaranteed that the line of David would continue, which eventually leads to the birth of JESUS! God’s Timing is PERFECT!
