His Encouragement #47

Good morning, and welcome to His Encouragement Thursday! I don’t know about you, but Thursdays are my struggle day of the week. By Thursday, I have already been working hard at school and at home, and I just wish it would hurry up and be Friday already. LOL! I definitely need a little extra Jesus time on Thursdays.

Trisha, my blogger friend at Joy of Reading, and I decided on calling this post “His Encouragement” because our real source of peace, strength, and security can only come from Jesus Christ. He, and He alone, is our constant! We pray and hope that these Thursday posts become a real encouragement to you and help you end your week strong in God’s love and purpose for you. God bless!

Today’s Thursday Encouragement comes from:

Romans 8:25 (ESV)

But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.

Yesterday my students did not have school. It was a student-free day so teachers could have a very long day of meetings. At one point in the very long day, my friend and I were talking about Jesus. Both my friend and I have had a really rough year and a half. While discussing our emotional statuses, my friend declared, “I just want Jesus to come get His Bride … or I want the aliens to come!”

My friend doesn’t actually believe that aliens are coming. She knows and understands spiritual warfare. She was kidding about the aliens. What she meant was that her problems seem SO big and uncontrollable that she either wants Jesus to come take her home so she can feel relief, or she wants something distracting to happen on earth so she can get her mind off her tribulations. I promise, my friend isn’t bad and she doesn’t want bad things to happen to people. She just wants relief.

It is easy to get bogged down by what is happening here on earth. And, it is easy to forget that God’s promises and timing are perfect especially when God’s timing and our timing feel so out of sync. In Romans 8, Paul discusses the difference between living in the Spirit versus living in the flesh. When we live in the flesh, we forget God. We become overwhelmed by the happenings in our lives. We begin to believe the lie that God is late and we get angry and frustrated. Before we know it, our feelings have tossed us into living in the flesh! But, if we read our Bibles, pray daily, and align ourselves to God’s will, we will be living in the Spirit. Then the Spirit will help us navigate the valleys in our lives. He will give us the words to say in our prayers, and make Bible verses and chapters come alive with new meaning. He will help us through our weaknesses, and He will help us patiently wait in hope for that glorious day when Jesus comes for His Bride.

NOW, IT’S YOUR TURN!

WHAT BIBLICAL VERSE IS ENCOURAGING YOU TODAY?

  1. Thank you for this message today. You are right. It is easy to get bogged down in the day-to-day and begin to forget the bigger picture. God is not late, but He is patient and waiting until the correct time. I am reminded of Jesus’ words in Matthew 18:13-14.

“If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them wanders away, what will he do? Won’t he leave the ninety-nine others on the hills and go out to search for the one that is lost? And if he finds it, I tell you the truth, he will rejoice over it more than over the ninety-nine that didn’t wander away! In the same way, it is not my heavenly Father’s will that even one of these little ones should perish.” (NLT)

  2. Sorry I’m a little late visiting I had a busy day and got home late. I’m glad your friend wasn’t serious about the aliens.. I have NO interest in them coming lol. But you’re so right about how focusing on the things of God help us to not be so overwhelmed by the things of this world. Thanks for sharing this! 🙂
