My Heart Belongs in Niagra Falls, New York: Adele’s Journey

As the coachman loaded her trunk onto the carriage, nausea churned inside Adele’s stomach.

What a good first line. It begs so many questions. Like, why is Adele so nervous? Where is she going? Why is this set in England when the title tells me this story takes place in New York? Who is Adele? I just have to keep reading! I love when books draw me in with just the first line!

In the spirit of our theme this week, which is Travel/Winter, I can tell you that Adele is on a mission. She leaves her home in England to travel to New York to visit estranged family. But, she has an ulterior motive in traveling to America. Oh, the plans we mortals make with such confidence. Obviously, things won’t work out quite as Adele plans!

    I’m sharing the first line from The House on Foster Hill by Jaime Jo Wright on my blog today, but at the moment, I’m reading ‘Beneath the Blackberry Moon’ by April Gardiner, so I’m going to share the first few lines of that here:

    “From inside the cool, shadowy wood, Totka Lawe squinted into a bright meadow. Its broad sea of undulating bromegrass lay empty. Deceptive.”

      I can’t wait to read The House on Foster Hill. I also have Beneath the Blackberry Moon, but I haven’t felt the pull to read it. I will have to check it out again.

  3. Oh, I can’t wait to read this book! I’ve been waiting my copy to arrive!! Today on my blog I’m sharing the first line from Liz Curtis Higg’s “A Wreath of Snow”. A Christmas favorite of mine! Last evening I started reading Lucette Nel’s book “A Match of Sorts”. I’m really enjoying this one also! Here is the first line: “She changed her mind.”

  9. That is an excellent question! Why is this set in England when the story is supposed to take place in New York?! Wonderful first line–just added this book to my Amazon wish list. 🙂 Happy Friday!

      3. Books on my blog have no sex and heavy volience you. That is one reason why I read a lot of cozy mysteries. Sex and volience occurs off th,e page. Some romance is allow but love triangles are not encourage. The paranormal is mild and a lot have animals woven into the story.
