One little white lie.
That’s all it took. Now I’m suddenly having to fake-date my work nemesis to get me through a week at a Vermont Christmas lodge with my family.
The problem? I can’t stand Miles Taylor. Not only that, but I don’t date people I work with. But I can handle it. I’ve had practice faking my emotions for years. So it shouldn’t matter that Miles never lets me get away with anything. And that he happens to boil my blood hotter than a steaming pot of wassail. So when he throws his annoying grin my way or forces me on dates he knows I’ll hate, I’ll just grit my teeth and smile.
Or maybe not. Did I mention that Miles is the one person in the world I can’t seem to fool?
When my emotions begin feeling less like a sham and his arms feel way too comfortable, it makes me think that maybe Miles had a plan of his own. And I’m starting to like it a lot more than mine.

My Thoughts

I absolutely loved every minute spent reading this fantastic story! I fully give Faking Christmas by Cindy Steel a 5-STAR rating. I could not put this book down. It is Olive. I stinkin’ love her character! She is a high school English teacher desperate to get her kids to love books and writing and grammar rules. I get her desire big time! She is also fiercely emotional, but a hider and a tad too introverted for her own good. I also get having deep emotions, wanting to push them WAY down, and the need to hide from the world. Olive is my fictional soul sister. My heart hurt for her as she maneuvers through her first Christmas without her beloved father, and attempts to navigate the emotional upheaval her mother’s brand new husband brings to the table. There truly is no manual for grief. Everyone deals with it in his/her own way, and no one way is correct. When I deal with my grief, I tend to be like Olive — I’m a wounded animal who needs to go hide and lick her wounds. But some seem to get back on their horses a little faster and move on with life. And that is 100% OK. What I loved so much about this book is the honest way characters each deal with the loss of a very important figure. It really is a different beast for every person. I also loved, loved, loved Miles. What a perfect hero! He is excellent for Olive. He knows her well so he knows when to push and when to pull back. He knows when to get in her face and when to back off and give her space. And he doesn’t let her get away with anything. He is the perfect hero to her hurting, confused, in-desperate-need-of-companionship-and-friendship self. I found their enemies-to-lovers relationship perfectly written and paced. And I laughed out loud with this book. There are moments that had me straight up dying with laughter. This book was such a fun read!
Faking Christmas is an excellent Contemporary Romance that I highly recommend. It is well written, well-paced, and highly engaging. It’s also super sweet and endearing.
