2023 — A Blog Update

Happy New Year!

For the past two weeks I have been debating what to do with this blog. Should I quit? Should I continue, but at a reduced pace? Should I continue to post almost daily? If I post almost daily, what do I post?

This year I am going to be intentional about what I read, when I read, and how I read. Instead of making a lofty annual reading goal, I’m going to be realistic. I have a daughter who is turning 11 this year and I want to spend more time with her before her priorities shift away from mom and dad (I’m going to blink and she will be a teenager!). And I want to be purposeful about spending more time with my husband. I love to read…so much…but it’s taking away time from what really matters most — my family.

So, I have plans for my blog. I will post as regularly as my life allows, but this year I’m going to say, “NO.” I can no longer read for every author who asks and I can no longer join every blog tour. I have to set boundaries this year in order to protect what is most important. This means I may have seasons where I post regularly and I may have seasons where I don’t.

I do hope you will continue to read and enjoy my blog as I post new posts. You, dear readers, are the coolest part of this blog journey of mine (that’s spanned over five years now). I am blessed by you all! Thank you for reading my posts.

Jessica’s Reading Challenge for 2023

My good blogger friend, Jessica Baker, is hosting a 2023 Reading Challenge this year and I am so excited to participate. I have SO many perfectly good unread novels sitting on my bookshelves that I want to get to this year. Does this challenge sound like something you would like to participate in? The more the merrier!

Goodreads Reading Challenge

This year, I am committing to 48 books! I know that is not a lot by a lot of readers’ standards, but as I stated above, I’ve let reading and this blog take over my life and I am striving for a little more balance this year.

What about you? What is your reading goal for this year?

  1. I will read no matter how often (or little you post)! I totally understand. I dropped my Goodreads challenge this year by 50 books and am still going to be very choosy with blog tours and stuff. Happy New Year πŸ™‚

      1. I over committed in 2021, and cut back last year, but then with the reading challenges it seemed overwhelming still. Trying to do even less of those types of things this year…

  2. So happy that you’ll be soaking up every moment with your daughter! Caitlin is 20 now, and I wish I could rewind like ten years and have more time πŸ™‚
    Glad you’re joining the challenge!!!!

    1. The challenge sounds like so much fun. I love the categories!
Time flies. I don’t quite understand how my kid is almost 11 already. Have to love every minute before she’s an adult wanting to do things on her own. πŸ˜€

  3. At first I was going to keep my reading goal the same this year. Then I ended up actually cutting it in half. Yeah… half. I hope to read more but I don’t want the pressure. And I want to focus on some of my own writing this year too so I’m trying to figure out the right balance of everything. And life has been pretty crazy. I’m hoping to become more active on my blog but also being more intentional about it. Kinda taking things more one day at a time this year. And gosh… I still can’t get over 11!! Time flies!!

    1. I love that we’re all trying to slow down this year and prioritize better! I’m SO excited about your novel. I will so totally read it!!!
Yeah, I don’t get time. How have 11 years passed so quickly?!
