Thursday Encouragement #203

Welcome to His Encouragement Thursday! I don’t know about you, but Thursdays are my struggle day of the week. By Thursday, I have already been working hard at school and at home, and I just wish it would hurry up and be Friday already. LOL! I definitely need a little extra Jesus time on Thursdays.

Turn from evil and do good, so that you will dwell forever. For the Lord loves justice and does not abandon His godly ones; they are protected forever, but the descendants of the wicked will be eliminated.

Psalm 37:27-28 (NASB2020)

“Turn from evil and do good…”

Do good. What is good? What does it mean to do good? Well, I like to let the Bible interpret itself. In one of my most favorite verses in the Bible, Micah 6:8, we are told, “He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? (emphasis mine).”

So, to God, good is when we do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with Him. Basically, it’s when we do His will.

Do justice — this means to be fair always and equally. You don’t pick sides and favor one group over another. When you act in justice, there is balance and order. Consider Jesus’s ministry. He spoke to everyone. He brought ALL kinds of people His good news. He preached and cared for the rich, the poor, the religious, the heathen, the men, the women, the children. Jesus was always fair and equal.

Love kindness — this means to love selflessness, compassion, and mercy. When you are being kind to others you are being selfless, compassionate, and merciful. You put others first, you feel for them in their walk on this earth, and you grant mercy even when it is not the easiest thing to do. Again, consider Jesus. He is the ultimate example of selflessness. His compassion still knows no bounds (if we accept it), and no one has been, or can be, as merciful. Jesus is kindness personified.

Walk humbly with God — humility means that we are utterly dependent on God’s mercy, worldly power and prestige means nothing to us (and we don’t seek it), and we accept God’s Word NO MATTER WHAT. What God wants, what He thinks, what He feels means more to us than ourselves and whatever Society wants, thinks, or feels. When we are humble, God comes first ALWAYS.

When we do Micah 6:8, we will never be abandoned by God. That’s what David says in verse 28. When we do good, God protects us FOREVER. Not for a minute, not for an hour, not for a week, but for FOREVER. Isn’t that amazing?

But there is a warning in David’s words and it must be heeded, especially in these end times. Turn from evil. If you do not — if you continue to be selfish, to do what you want when you want it, when you put yourself first over others, when you lie and cheat and steal, when you treat people unequally, when you are unfair and mean — God will eliminate you and your offspring.

Today, dear reader, choose good because choosing good means choosing God. And when you do, He will protect you forever.

NOW, IT’S YOUR TURN!
