His Encouragement #157

Welcome to His Encouragement Thursday! I don’t know about you, but Thursdays are my struggle day of the week. By Thursday, I have already been working hard at school and at home, and I just wish it would hurry up and be Friday already. LOL! I definitely need a little extra Jesus time on Thursdays.

For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

2 Peter 1:21 (NIV)

This verse is about discernment. Discernment is “the ability to judge well.” It is our duty to discern well when it comes to prophets and prophecy.

In Matthew 24:10-11 (ESV), Jesus warns us that in the last days, “many will fall away and betray one another and hate one another. And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray.”

So, how can we protect ourselves from false prophets? How can we hope to not be led astray? Well, God is so cool, He gives us the answer in Deuteronomy 18:21-22:

And if you say in your heart, ‘How may we know the word that the Lord has not spoken?’— when a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the word does not come to pass or come true, that is a word that the Lord has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously. You need not be afraid of him.

Deuteronomy 18:21-22 (ESV)

This direction from the Lord comes with an understanding that we may have to be a little patient. We may have to wait and see. Waiting is the hardest part, but it may just saves our souls … and keep us from unnecessary fear. Also, it needs to be said that true prophecy from God is not a matter of human’s and their will, but rather God and His. Lots of people want things to go their way, but God’s way will always win out.

God is good. He takes good care of His kiddos. He saw the problems we would face and gave us a way out of them. All we have to do is study His Word and spend time with Him.

NOW, IT’S YOUR TURN!

WHAT BIBLICAL VERSE IS ENCOURAGING YOU TODAY?

I love Jesus, my husband, and my daughter. I love reading and reviewing Christian fiction. And, I am a high school English teacher trying to get kids to fall in love with reading every day!
