His Encouragement #150

Welcome to His Encouragement Thursday! I don’t know about you, but Thursdays are my struggle day of the week. By Thursday, I have already been working hard at school and at home, and I just wish it would hurry up and be Friday already. LOL! I definitely need a little extra Jesus time on Thursdays.

This week, I want to showcase three verses from Proverbs that have really resonated with me. I don’t have a lot to say about these verses because they speak for themselves, so this may be a shorter-than-usual post, but I really feel they need to be shared.

So, here goes:

No wisdom, no understanding, no counsel can avail against the Lord.

Proverbs 21:30 ESV

This Proverb is AMAZING. It does NOT matter how smart you think you are. It does NOT matter how smart you think someone else is. Not your doctor, not your pastor, not your teacher, not your spouse … NO ONE IS SMARTER THAN GOD. Nothing man plans will ever beat God’s plan. This a great reminder for all of us today.

Rescue those who are being taken away to death; hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter.

Proverbs 24:11 (ESV)

What a verse! I’m not sure I have ever really “seen” this verse before. I know I’ve read it many times, but this feels like the first time I’ve seen it. This is a command to all those who believe in God. It is our duty to protect people from death. I think a lot will read this and feel like it’s a message to prevent death (i.e., dying from diseases and old age), but I don’t think this is what it means. I think it means it is our duty to protect people who are zeroed in on by authoritative dictators as scapegoats. It is our duty to be Bonhoeffers. When we see injustice, when we see liberties being stripped, when we see a group being singled out we MUST act in order to prevent the death that typically follows this ugly behavior. Yes, it is scary and lonely to stand up for what is right, but it is a duty God has called us all to regardless of how we feel. If you see evil, it must be squashed OR Death will come.

It will go well with those who convict the guilty, and a generous blessing will come to them.

Proverbs 24:25 CSB

This verse hurt my heart. We absolutely live in the time where people scream for evil while calling it good, and shut out good calling it evil. When I read this verse I teared up a little. It doesn’t take a brain surgeon to see that injustice is rampant today. More people convict the innocent than ever convict the guilty in today’s world. The worst part is the deception that is pervasive in our society. Everyone is convinced their way is the right way, their thinking is the right thinking, and their version of justice is the right version. It’s incredibly scary. We are so backwards and twisted that I truly feel only Jesus can fix us at this point. If you’re a praying person, pray hard for Jesus to come save us from the insanity.

NOW, IT’S YOUR TURN!
