Laurel swung her feet from the armrest of the sofa to the floor and sat up. The book she’d been reading slid from her lap and landed with a soft thud on the faded square of carpet that formed an island in the middle of the scuffed hardwood floor. Ordinarily, retrieving a book — a precious thing to both her and Mama — would take precedence over all else, but the mutter of voices from the porch and the click of a key in the front door stole her attention. Which of her siblings had chosen to disturb Mama’s afternoon nap?

I like Laurel already! A novel with a book enthusiast is one of my favorite types of novels.

I am not familiar with Kim Vogel Sawyer’s novels, but I am highly anticipating reading this story. It sounds really excellent.

    On my blog today I shared the first line from When You Are Near by Tracie Peterson: https://thebeccafiles.com/2019/03/22/first-line-friday-53/ but I’m now currently reading The Baggage Handler by David Rawlings so I’ll share the first line from my current chapter (4) here: “David corralled his nerves and forced them into one knee, which bounced an erratic dance as he sat in the reception area of Sisyphus Financial’s top floor.” Hope you have a great weekend!

  5. I have never read a book by Kim Vogel Sawyer, but I should. Here I will share the first line of the chapter I’m currently on in The Heaven Answer Book by Billy Graham. The question is: Will we grieve for lost loved ones when we are in Heaven? The first line of the answer is: In God’s glorious presence, all our concerns and griefs will be erased.   6. I’ve read a couple of books by Kim Vogel Sawyer but nothing recently.
    My newest book is Glory Road by Lauren Denton.

  8. I’ve read a couple of Kim Vogel Sawyer’s books and enjoyed them, although I’m finding this one a little too easy to put down.

    I’m sharing the first line from The King’s Mercy by Lori Benton on my blog today, and that’s what I’m currently reading. It’s my first Lori Benton book and I’ve heard great things about her writing, so I have high expectations!
