About the Book

Holly paused outside the old pharmacy storefront, brass key in hand. How could a building be so dear to her? Because inside the brick, glass, and wood exterior, the beautiful, timeworn store held the hope that medicine brought to her Amish community.

I am really late getting to this book. I meant to get it read before Christmas, but life is what it is. I am not a big Amish fiction fan, but I am a huge Cindy Woodsmall and Erin Woodsmall fan. I think their work together is excellent. When I saw they had done a Christmas novel together I knew I had to read it, and I am not disappointed. The Christmas Remedy is a good read! Check back real soon for my review of this sweet novel.

    I shared the first few lines of Tara Conklin’s upcoming novel “The Last Romantics” on my blog today. I am only about 47% into the book so, here, I’ll share to you the first lines of the chapter I’m currently on.

    “With Will gone I searched in earnest for Noni, worrying that she had seen us speaking and that I would be forced to explain. Noni did not recognize boundaries when it came to us, her daughters, our skin problems or boyfriends or job prospects. Her questions were always frank and pointed, designed to elicit answers that contained enough salient information for her critique. Dodging Noni’s questions had become a sport for my sisters and me, a verbal tennis match with Noni always retaining the serve. I could only imagine what she’d do with Will and the kiss he’d delivered.”

  8. That first line definitely sounds interesting. On my blog, I’m sharing a book by the late Ruth Bell Graham called Prodigals and Those Who Love Them. Here, I will share a line from Chapter 5 of that book, which is Gigi Graham Tchividjian’s story. “At times the Lord had to gently remind me to deal with my son as He deals with His children: to keep the doors of communication always open, to accept the person, even when I could not accept his actions and conduct.” I wish you a warm and wonderful weekend!

  17. Currently reading several books. Just started “Serving God in a Migrant Crisis” by Patrick Johnstone and Dean Merrill. First line of the foreword provides a good intro to the book: “When we hear the words ‘refugee’ or ‘immigrant,’ we often think of political issues, not flesh-and-blood people. We emotionally distance ourselves from the struggling fathers, mothers, and children fleeing the violence of war or the scourge of poverty.”
