Laura Frantz is my #1 favorite Christian writer. I will read anything she writes! Her novels are always well researched, realistic, and romantic (in the BEST of ways). I highly, highly recommend all of her books, but Love’s Awakening is my most favorite of Laura Frantz’s novels.

I have read this book so many times I may have it memorized. It is a Beauty and the Beast tale of sorts told in the BEST way. Ellie, the main character, is a Belle. She is beautiful, independent, caring, courageous, and intelligent. She fights for what is right, and she is able to see past the outside of someone to the true heart within. She is lovely. She is exactly the kind of woman I want my daughter to become. And, Jack!!! Oh my word, is Jack the best kind of hero!!! He is handsome, strong, hard on the outside but has a heart that burns bright for Ellie. He is willing to put everything on the line to keep Ellie safe. He is definitely swoon-worthy.

If you have not read this book, I highly recommend it. It’s actually time for me to reread it AGAIN. I need my Ellie and Jack fix. LOL!

About the Book

In the spring of 1822, Ellie Ballantyne leaves finishing school and returns to the family home in Pittsburg only to find that her parents are away on a long journey and her siblings don’t seem to want her to stay. Determined to stand her ground and find her place in the world, Ellie fills her time by opening a day school for young ladies.

But when one of her students turns out to be an incorrigible young member of the Turlock family, Ellie knows she must walk a fine line. Slaveholders and whiskey magnates, the Turlocks are envious of the powerful Ballantynes and suspicious of their abolitionist leanings. As Ellie becomes increasingly entangled with the rival clan–particularly the handsome Jack Turlock–she finds herself falling in love with an impossible future. Will she betray her family and side with the enemy?

Masterful storyteller Laura Frantz continues to unfold the stirring saga of the Ballantyne family in this majestic tale of love and loyalty. This is the Ballantyne Legacy.

  1. We were the lucky one’s by Georgia Hunter its loosely based on her grandfathers side of the family and how as jews they all survived the war and the concentration camps. She did not learn what had happen or that she was of jewish decent until she was 15. She talked to many survivors to fill in the gaps his relatives couldn’t remember.
