About the Book

May 1943

The taxi rolled to a stop and Kat Miller wanted to pinch herself, make sure she really say outside the Chicago landmark. Wrigley Field.

I am SO excited to read this story. First, I love Cara Putman novels. They are AMAZING. I know when I pick up one of her books that I am in for a great story. Second, I LOVE the book and film A League of Their Own, so knowing that A Promise Forged is about a woman who plays for the All-American Girls Professional Softball League makes me even more excited to read what I am positive will be a great story. Be sure to check back on August 6th for my full review!

And just for fun…here’s one of my favorite parts from A League of Their Own:

  1. I’m sharing the first line from A Widow’s Hope by Vannetta Chapman on my blog today. I’m currently on chapter 8 so I’ll share the first line from that chapter here. “Jacob had fallen into a comfortable routine by Thursday afternoon.”

I hope you have a nice weekend!

  2. Today I shared the first couple of lines from Fiona Davis’ upcoming book “The Masterpiece” on my blog. But as I’m only about 25% into the book, let me share the first few lines of the chapter I’m currently reading.

“Clara had seen Levon only twice since he’d taken her class five days earlier: once in a crowded hallway, where he’d given her a salute as he brushed by, and another time on the concourse of the terminal, where she was certain he’d spotted her but pretended not to.
His puerile behavior annoyed her. She had no way of knowing if he’d upheld his end of the bet and insisted that Mr. Lorette keep her on.”

I hope you enjoy that. Happy weekend and enjoying your reading! 😀

  3. Happy Friday! My first line is from Dancing in the Rain by Eileen Rife and Jennifer Slattery:

“The letter was probably one more rejection Loni could add to all the others crumpled in her trash.”

  4. I am beginning A Promise Forged this weekend. Here’s the first line from a book on my TBR shelf, Justice Buried by Patricia Bradley — It wasn’t too hot for 10:00 P.M. in the middle of May unless you were about to climb over the ledge of a fourteen-story building in downtown Memphis.

    Happy Friday!

  5. Happy Friday! Over on my blog, I’m sharing the first line from The Reckoning at Gossamer Pond by Jaime Jo Wright. Here I’ll share the first line from Chapter 28 of the same book:
“Dusk had settled over Gossamer Pond. The mist rolled off its surface, making the mossy green algae glow in the moonlight.”
I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  6. Happy Friday!😊

My first line comes from The Mending by Susan Lantz Simpson……..

She sensed someone had entered the room, even though she’d been dozing and hadn’t heard the whoosh of the door opening or the squeak of athletic shoes on the tile floor. Her eyes felt glued shut.

Have a great weekend and happy reading!😊📚

  7. Happy Friday!

Ah, I’m looking forward to reading this book soon!

I’m reading The Hero’s Guide to Being an Outlaw by Christopher Healy right now, so here’s the first line: “Outlaws have too many feathers in their hats.”

  8. On my blog, I’m sharing the first line from Secrets & Charades by Cindy Ervin Huff. Since I’m still reading the book, I will share the first two lines from chapter 8 here. “Jake finished hitching the wagon as the sun rose over the horizon. When he peered in the door of the soddie, Evangeline stood before him trying to press the wrinkles out of her green dress with her hands.” Have a wonderful weekend!

  9. Happy Friday! I’m sharing from a different book on my blog today, but my current lunchtime read is the second Lady Alkmene Cozy Mystery, Diamonds of Death by Vivian Conroy. Here is the first line (well, first two):

“It was madness to do this on a night with a full moon. But then you had to be a little mad to do this work to begin with.”

  10. My First line is from The Best of Intentions by Susan Anne Mason:

    May 1919
Grace Abernathy stood at the rail of the S S Olympic, staring out over the calm expanse of the sea as the last trace of sunlight disappeared over the horizon.

I need to read Cara’s books! Have a great weekend!

  11. I love the cover art!
The book I shared on my blog today is A Rumored Fortune by Joanna Davidson Politano but it’s also the book I’m currently reading so I’ll share the first line from chapter 3 here: “Squinting into the fog made orange by the rising sun, I strode through the sprawling vineyard in a nightdress and my tattered old garden cloak and pondered the odd whispers of my servant.” Hope you have a great weekend with lots of reading time! 🙂

    1. I need to read her books. I have to stop saying yes to all the publicity tours so I can read more books of my choosing. It’s just hard… I want to read the books for the publicity tours. 🤪😉

  12. Happy Friday! My first line comes from The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton

    London, 1913

It was dark where she crouched but the little girl did as she’d been told.

  13. What a fun read!

Today’s first lines come from Dangerous Deeds: The Westport Mysteries. Lizzie by Beth Prentice.

~It’s probably important that I start this story by telling you who I am. My name is Lizzie Fuller and I’m the tallest female member of my family, measuring in at 5’2”.~

This is an older release, but it’s my Quirky Blind Date with a Book this month. I have to say, I’m enjoying it so far!

I’m featuring lines from Lexi Blake’s upcoming release “Protected.” on my blog today. I hope you can stop by!

  14. This sounds fascinating! I love historical fiction that’s based on fact, especially if it’s one of the less well-known parts of history. Thanks for sharing 🙂

I’m sharing the first line of Miss Serena’s Secret by Carolyn Miller on my blog, so I’ll share the first line from the book I’m currently reading: Justice by Emily Conrad:

“Snow floated onto Main Street, each flake large enough to catch the breeze like a parachute.”
