Good morning, and welcome to His Encouragement Thursday! I don’t know about you, but Thursdays are my struggle day of the week. By Thursday, I have already been working hard at school and at home, and I just wish it would hurry up and be Friday already. LOL! I definitely need a little extra Jesus time on Thursdays.
Trisha, my blogger friend at Joy of Reading, and I decided on calling this post “His Encouragement” because our real source of peace, strength, and security can only come from Jesus Christ. He, and He alone, is our constant! We pray and hope that these Thursday posts become a real encouragement to you and help you end your week strong in God’s love and purpose for you. God bless!
Today’s Thursday Encouragement comes from:
Colossians 3:2 (ESV)
Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on the earth.
As I type this, I have a large sense of foreboding. I have NO idea why I feel this way. There is nothing in my life that I fear God doesn’t have control over. I’ve read my Bible and I’ve written in my prayer journal. I’ve talked to God. But, this sense of something negative is hanging over me like a cloud I can’t get away from. And, it’s kind of scary. I don’t like this feeling. Have you ever felt like this?
When I got in my car to go to work today and turned on the radio, one of the pastors I love to listen to was discussing the full armor of God in Ephesians 6. Then, when I opened my Bible to decide which verse to share this week, I saw Colossians 3:2. I feel like God is definitely talking to me today, and I think He is telling me it’s time to gear up for battle and keep my eyes on Him. I need to focus on the things of heaven, and not lose heart by the things going on here on earth.
And just like that…that ugly feeling has disappeared. God has blessed me with a sense of peace. As long as I look up, everything is going to be OK.
If you are struggling with negative feelings, look up. God is HERE!
NOW, IT’S YOUR TURN!

When you get that anxiety seemingly for no reason, something demonic is trying to steal your hope and encouragement in Christ. Cling to the beauty of Revelation 21:1-4 and realize that one day, our momentary troubles will be gone.

Thank you for sharing the Bible verse for me to use as an anchor in these moments. I appreciate it!

Praying through the Psalms, and Psalm 139:5 hit me— “You hem me in,behind and before, and lay your hand upon me.” The fact that God hems me in all around, and especially that His hand is on my life. It is a bit breath taking and reassuring when I lean into that verse and pray it over me and my family.

I love this verse!!! Thank you for sharing. You are totally correct. The fact God hedges us with His hand, His protection….it’s a tremendous blessing. It also makes me feel purposeful. I’m not random. God made me on purpose! Such a great verse. 😊

Amen! This is a great verse to meditate on when negative thoughts come in. Reading, meditating on, and praying scripture is our best weapon!

Amen and amen! It is so easy for us to get distracted. But God’s Word reminds us why we should always concentrate on the things up above. It will give us peace, comfort, and joy!
