His Encouragement #25

CollageMaker_20180228_162151023.jpgGood morning, and welcome to His Encouragement Thursday! I don’t know about you, but Thursdays are my struggle day of the week. By Thursday, I have already been working hard at school and at home, and I just wish it would hurry up and be Friday already. LOL! I definitely need a little extra Jesus time on Thursdays.

Trisha, my blogger friend at Joy of Reading, and I decided on calling this post “His Encouragement” because our real source of peace, strength, and security can only come from Jesus Christ. He, and He alone, is our constant! We pray and hope that these Thursday posts become a real encouragement to you and help you end your week strong in God’s love and purpose for you. God bless!

Today’s Thursday Encouragement comes from:

Mark 6: 30-32 (ESV)

The apostles returned to Jesus and told him all that they had done and taught. And he said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat. And they went away in the boat to a desolate place by themselves.

I am a tired I haven’t been since my daughter was born.

Everyday the world adds one more thing to my plate that I don’t ask for and that I don’t want. I actually considered skipping this post this week because I don’t have anything left to give right now. But, when I am this tired I need God more than ever. So I turned to my Bible.

This week, God led me to Mark 6:30-32. I love these verses because they illustrate exactly how we are to be in a relationship with Jesus. And, they explain what we need to do when we are tired from doing the work God has put into our lives.

  • Step One — Return to Jesus (Mark 6:30)
  • Step Two — Tell Him everything — the good, the bad, the mundane — about your day (Mark 6:30)
    • Jesus is asking us to “pull a Hezekiah”
    • See last week’s His Encouragement for my explanation of what it means to “pull a Hezekiah”
  • Step Three — Listen to His suggestion — Go to a desolate place ALONE (Mark 6:31)
    • Desolate is defined as “a place deserted of people”
    • Typically, desolate is utilized as a negative word, but I don’t think God’s usage in these verses is negative. I think He is instructing us to go to a place that is SO empty of everything and everyone because in those places it’s easier to hear and talk to Him. It’s really easy to sit on my couch and be distracted by my phone, my TV, the food pantry, etc. But, if I clear out of those comfy spots and go to an empty space, I can focus on God. He and I can be alone together!
  • Step Four — DO what Jesus suggests — REST A WHILE (Mark 6:32)

I LOVE this!!! Relationship with Jesus is really this simple. All He wants is for us to turn to Him and talk. He will then guide us to our rest.

Jesus is SO amazing! I hope this has blessed you as much as it has blessed me today.

  1. I LOVE this! We live in a such a busy world where everyone is always in a rush. We need to take time to talk with Jesus, cast our burdens on Him, and listen to what He has to say. He will give us the rest we need – not some spa, massage therapist, or even a nap (gasp, I love naps!). Thank you for this awesome reminder 🙂

    1. You are welcome! I love naps, too. I know they are of God when they are the really good naps. The kind where you wake up refreshed and ready to tackle more things on your plate. Have an excellent day Jessica!

  2. Girl, I’m in the same boat. As a mom, wife, and working in ministry I have such a full plate. I always find verses that will bring me back up and give me that encouragement I need. This week it’s been Isaiah 40:31 “…but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

    1. I am glad to know I am not alone! Sometimes, I think we get to feeling like we are islands — the only one feeling the way we feel. And, I love the verse you have shared. I actually have seen that verse twice now this week, which means God’s talking to me! Thanks so much for sharing.

  3. I love this!! The last ten weeks have been so exhausting for me (a toddler and a newborn). When caught up in the busyness of the everyday things, it is easy to lose focus on our relationship with Christ.

    1. Yes! Children are our biggest blessing, but they can exhaust us to near insanity. This helps me to remember where to put my focus daily so when I get really tired, I automatically go to God for help. He really does alleviate burdens! Praying for you and your beautiful babies!

  4. It is so easy to get wrapped up in the everyday tasks, but that is the enemy’s plan. It is so very important to remember that we must set aside time to just rest. Time to be with God and to listen to His voice. Thank you for sharing this verse today!

  5. Love this! Life can be so busy and sometimes we really need to just take a step back and breathe, take a rest and call on the Lord for the strength we need to endure. Thanks for Sharing! 🙂
