Happy Friday!!! Welcome to my 27th edition of #FirstLineFridays. This week we have a special theme — “little month, little book.” So, without further ado…

A Night in Grosvenor Square (Timeless Regency Collection)

by Sarah M. Eden, Annette Lyon, and Heather B. Moore

About the Book

“A Match for Princess Pompous” by Sarah M. Eden

Bath, 1810

If Adelaide Northrop had to listen to one more ode praising Charity Goddard’s eyes, she was absolutely going to strangle the offending amateur poet with his own overlarge cravat.

“Confections and Pretense” by Annette Lyon

London, Summer 1825

In the back of Gunter’s Tea Shop, Anne eased the back of a mold into a basin of tepid water, then slowly counted to ten before pulling it out again, just long enough to release the ice cream from the metal. With a practiced hand, she flipped the mold over so it landed perfectly centered on the waiting platter. Now came the tricky part: removing the ice cream without destroying the design.

“Little London” by Heather B. Moore

Somewhere outside of London, 1826

Harpshire Village was a far cry from London in both architecture and entertainments, and the type of people who lived in the village were simple folk. The only time a member of the ton was sighted was when they stayed at the Harpshire Inn while en route from London to some vast country estate. Never to actually visit Harpshire itself.

I absolutely LOVE the cover of this book. The attitude of the young woman is awesome, and totally makes me want to read this collection of short stories! And, the stories sound like they will be quite fun and engaging. I can’t wait to get into this book!

Are you a fan of novellas? What “little book” are you looking forward to getting to?

Now it is your turn! Grab the book you are currently reading, open to chapter one, and post the first sentence (or second sentence) in the comments below. Then head on over to Hoarding Books to see all of the FLF pages this week (just click on the FLF button below).First Line Fridays hosted by Hoarding Books

  1. Love the title of Sarah Eden’s story! Aren’t these Timeless Romance Collections the best?

Here’s are the first couple lines of a Love Inspired Suspense I finished recently but haven’t featured: Her head throbbed and grogginess gripped her. She rocked as if on giant waves. (from Thread of Revenge by Elizabeth Goddard.

    1. This will actually be my first time reading a Timeless Collection book. I am glad to hear you love them!
I’m battling allergies right now, and kind of feel like the woman in your first lines. LOL!
Thanks for sharing! Have a great weekend.

  2. I’m looking forward to Jennifer Rodewald’s valentines novella, The Cupcake Dilemma.

In the meantime, I’m in historical fiction lover’s heaven this week, with the first line from Jocelyn Green’s “A Refuge Assured” on my blog and the first line from Kristy Cambron’s “The Lost Castle” below:

“Crumbling walls were rare, beautiful things.”

I’ll leave you to ponder that thought. 🙂

  4. This sounds like a superb collection that I need to read! Thanks for sharing!

I’m sharing Be the Hands and Feet by Nick Vujicic on my blog today, but the first line that I’ll share here is The Saturday Night Supper Club by Carla Laureano. Loving this book so far!

“Three hours in Saturday night dinner service and she was already running on fumes.”

    Happy reading! 🙂

  5. Happy Friday!

This week my FLF comes from Still Me by JoJo Moyes.

It was the moustache that reminded me I was no longer in England: a solid, grey millipede firmly obscuring the man’s upper lip; a Village People moustache, a cowboy moustache, the miniature head of a broom that meant business.

Have a great weekend and stay warm!

  6. Beautiful cover. This one definitely interests me. On my blog, I’m featuring Serendipity by one of my favorite authors, Cathy Marie Hake. Here, I’d like to share a line from the 30th chapter of The Captivating lady by Carolyn Miller, which is the book I’m currently reading. “The hope filling his heart leaked out the next day when he saw the way Charlotte barely looked at him.” May you enjoy a blessed, joyful, and restful weekend.

  8. I seldom read novellas as I read too quick and I am f,finished way to soon. Occasionally, I will read one of it will add to one of my series. Today I am featuring an old favorite by Helen MacInnes. Her books were usually spy stories and suspenseful. This one is a novel that covers how words can effect your view of a situation or a person.

  9. You had me at “Princess Pompous” LOL Throw in that first line and I am hooked! This one is definitely getting added to my TBR! Thank you!

I’m sharing the first line from Anne Mateer’s No Small Storm over on my blog, so I’ll share a different line here. It’s from A Bride At Last by Melissa Jagears:

    September 1885
At the sound of running footsteps, Kate Donovan glanced up from dumping mop water in the alleyway outside the school building.
    Happy weekend!

I hope you have a great weekend!
