Thursday Encouragement

HIS Encouragement #12

Good morning, and welcome to His Encouragement Thursday! I don’t know about you, but Thursdays are my struggle day of the week. By Thursday, I have already been working hard at school and at home, and I just wish it would hurry up and be Friday already. LOL! I definitely need a little extra Jesus time on Thursdays.

Trisha, my blogger friend at Joy of Reading, and I decided on calling this post “His Encouragement” because our real source of peace, strength, and security can only come from Jesus Christ. He, and He alone, is our constant! We pray and hope that these Thursday posts become a real encouragement to you and help you end your week strong in God’s love and purpose for you. God bless!

Today’s Thursday Encouragement comes from:

2 Peter 3:9 (ESV)

The Lord is not slow to fulfill His promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.

Today’s verse illustrates God’s character as loving, and full of grace and mercy. When this world gets super crazy, as it has this past year, I get frustrated. My husband and I have long talks about the End of Days and when is Jesus coming to call His Bride, and what is taking Him SOOOOOO long?! I’m impatient. I think God is going too slow. And, then I feel guilty for feeling that way because God is God and I am not. God knows better than me because He sees everything. He knows how everything has worked out, is working out, and will work out.

1515949955577_image.jpgThis verse from 2 Peter 3 proves that God doesn’t want the end stuff to happen until He is certain His kids are ready. He doesn’t want anyone to die. He doesn’t want anyone to hurt or suffer or experience wrath. God just wants us to repent. He wants us to say, “God, I am a sinner. I need You! Forgive me, please.” He wants our hearts to turn from stone to flesh.

What I really love about this verse is that is says, “[God] is patient towards [me].” I think, “But I’m ready God!” And He says, “Maybe not so much,” and He gives me more time to Bible study, to pray, to fellowship, to be in relationship with Him. God’s timing is perfect timing.

This verse has blessed me tremendously today. It gives me hope. Hope for today and for tomorrow. I hope that your Thursday is a blessed one, and that this verse resonates with you today. God bless!

  1. Love this!!! I, too, question why Jesus can’t come to get us like today. I mean, I’m ready! But you’re right, He’s waiting for more people to call on His name. He’s waiting for us to grow a little closer. And my daughter says that He’s waiting for her to grow up and have a family lol. I’m not sure about that…..

    1. I love your daughter’s response! All in God’s time for sure, and maybe she will get to grow up and have a family, and you will get to be a grandma! But, maybe Jesus will get His command to collect His Bride tomorrow. That’s the cool part…as much as it is frustrating to wait, it’s kind of exciting and thrilling. It truly could be any time now!

  2. Yes! I too love this verse! There has been many times when I’ve prayed, begged, please come Jesus. Come and take us Home. After my Grandma died was especially difficult. But then I found this verse, and it gave me comfort. And reminded me that He has a plan, He wants everyone to know Him. So, I will share His message of love until He calls me home!

    1. I’m sorry about the loss of your Grandma. Losing a loved one is always difficult. I love that this is a go-to verse for you. I often have to play it on loop in my head, and then repeat that God is the Boss and I am not.

      1. Thank you, sweet friend! Grandma died 3 years ago this May. I still feel her loss as if it was yesterday. I am looking forward to that wonderful day when we go home to heaven and can sit at Jesus’s feet with our loved ones! No more tears, No more pain, No more death!

  3. That’s such a great verse. We can hang on to it when we see the world going out of control and want to cry: Why O Lord or Come Lord Jesus! He’s in control and He knows best! He’s not willing for ANY to perish. We need to pray for the Holy Spirir to convict and convince our unsaved loved ones. Thanks for this encouragement!

    1. Exactly Paula. It calms me quite a bit to know that God’s got His plan in place. One of my favorite statements is that things are not falling apart, but rather they are falling into place.
