Desert Duet (O Little Town of Christmas)

Thea Knight stretched up on tiptoes, twisting to examine her backside in the washroom mirror.

Happy Friday, y’all! And, Happy Holidays. This week, I am showcasing Debra E. Marvin’s Christmas novella, Desert Duet. So far, the fist line definitely has me intrigued. Is Thea getting ready for a party? Is she just checking out her outfit as women will do? Is she wearing something new? And, this line kind of makes me think that maybe Thea will have a great sense of humor. Don’t really know why I think this, but I am eager to see if my instincts about Thea are correct.

This will be my very first Debra Marvin novel. I am very excited to read this story. I have heard good things about this novella, but also about Debra’s other writings!!! If you have not heard of this book, click HERE to check it out.

Now it is your turn! Grab the book you are currently reading, open to chapter one, and post the first sentence (or second sentence) in the comments below. Then head on over to Hoarding Books to see all of the FLF pages this week (just click on the FLF button below).

  1. Haha. Love that first line!

On my blog, I’m featuring the first line from a fun Christmas read called ‘Tinsel in a Tangle’ by Laurie Germaine, but here, I’m going to share the first line from another Christmas book I recently finished, this one by Chautona Havig, called ‘Carol and the Belles’:

“I’ll never get off this plane.”

    Merry Christmas!

  2. Tinsel in a Tangle is a million dollar title! Now I’m off to do the Friday Morning Circuit!

    thanks Nicole (and Katie!)

I have to say that I had to hurry over to see my first line. It made me laugh. (Good thing, huh?) I love Thea’s story. It always felt like a good old-fashioned movie to me, so I hope readers agree.

    Merry Christmas! It’s almost here!

  3. Merry Christmas!

I agree that the first line makes you wonder and want to read more. I’ll have to take a peek at that book.

My first line comes from Deborah Raney’s Circle of Blessings:

    Dakota Territory, 1864

It was almost closing time, and in all of his seventeen years, James Collingwood could not remember being so bone-weary as he felt tonight.

My FLF comes from a book I’m reading now Secrets of the Tulip Sisters by Susan Mallery.

Kelly Murphy was willing to accept certain injustices in the world. That brownies had more calories than celery.

    Happy Holidays!

  6. Merry Christmas, Nicole! 🙂 I’ve never read Debra Marvin before… That first line is highly realistic, though! 🙂 Haha! Over on my blog, I’m featuring Monster by Frank Peretti, but over here, I’ll share the first line of another on my TBR pile, The Cottage by Michael Phillips: “The letter two weeks before had been brief. Less than half a page. Yet in an instant it had turned her life upside down.”

    1. Thanks for sharing! While Frank Peretti is a good writer, his stuff is too intense for me. But, I hope you enjoy the book. I love the line you shared here. That book I will have to check out. 😊
      Merry Christmas, and Happy Friday!!!
