Thursday Encouragement

HIS Encouragement #7

Good morning, and welcome to another edition of His Encouragement Thursday! I don’t know about you, but Thursdays are my struggle day of the week. By Thursday, I have already been working hard at school and at home, and I just wish it would hurry up and be Friday already. LOL! I definitely need a little extra Jesus time on Thursdays.

Trisha, my blogger friend at Joy of Reading, and I decided on calling this post “His Encouragement” because our real source of peace, strength, and security can only come from Jesus Christ. He, and He alone, is our constant! We pray and hope that these Thursday posts become a real encouragement to you and help you end your week strong in God’s love and purpose for you. God bless!

Today’s Thursday Encouragement comes from:

Deuteronomy 32:39

“See now that I, even I, am He, and there is no god beside Me; I kill and I make alive; I wound and I heal; and there is none that can deliver out of My hand.”

This may be an odd verse to choose as a Thursday encouragement, but hear me out. A few weeks ago, I shared that my best friend is struggling with a very rare and very scary form of cancer called angiosarcoma. We got word about three weeks ago that she was going to switch treatments. The one she was on just wasn’t working and the cancer seemed to be growing fiercely. So, she was put on another trial that is actually working — PRAISE JESUS. It seems as if the tumors are miraculously shrinking right before our eyes. But, just yesterday, my best friend had to go to the hospital. She broke out into a very high fever. Now, everyone is worried about infection. The new treatment does appear to be killing the cancer, but is it having too hard an effect on my friend’s body or does she just need sleep? The questions abound, and that is super frustrating.

I want to fix everything right now. That’s who I am. I am a fixer. But, as my friend, Tim, reminded me, I am not God. Only God decides who dies and who lives, who is wounded and who is healed. God decides who gets to live another year on earth and who gets to go home to Heaven. Deuteronomy 32:39, and Tim’s reminder, really spoke to me. I take great comfort in the fact that God is the boss and I am not. What does this really mean? It means that while God is dealing with the details, I get to hang out with my friend one more day. We get to laugh and watch our daughters play while God figures it all out.

If you are struggling today, and you are so frustrated and lost and sad and angry…I pray you take comfort knowing that the pressure is off. God’s got the details. We are children of God. That means we are in HIS hand and NO ONE can take us from God. Such a great comfort to me in this time of upheaval. I hope it’s a great comfort to you. Happy Thursday!!!

  1. Beautifully written. One of the reason’s I love Hillary Scott’s song Thy Will is because of the part where she says “sometimes I gotta stop, remember that you’re God, and I am not.” It’s so hard to give things to God and not just want to fix them on my own. This is a wonderful verse. Thank you!!

    1. It is so hard to give things to God. I know better, but it’s like I completely don’t even think about handing it all over (I’m ashamed to admit). Good thing God loves us!!! ❤ Glad the verse spoke to you today. God bless!
