Always Watching (2016)

25795324Always Watching (2016) by Lynette Eason is the first book in the Elite Guardians series. This novel comes in all forms including eBook, and is 336 pages in length. With a full-time job and a high-energy five-year old, this novel took me two days to read. I give this novel 5 STARS. This story is a Contemporary Christian Suspense novel.

About the Book

The bodyguards of Elite Guardians Agency have more than just skill and prowess in common–they’re also all women. When it becomes clear that popular psychiatrist and radio personality Wade Savage has a stalker, his father secretly hires Elite Guardians in order to protect his son.

But when Wade’s bodyguard is attacked and nearly killed, agency owner Olivia Edwards must step in and fill the gap. Olivia’s skills are about to be tested to the limit as Wade’s stalker moves from leaving innocent gifts at his door to threatening those closest to him. Olivia has the feeling that she’s next on the list. And to complicate things even further, she realizes that her heart may be in as much danger as her client.

My Thoughts

This is the first Eason novel that I have read, but it will not be my last. This book is SO good. The characters are well written and realistic, the suspense is intense, and the action never stops. One aspect I love about this novel is that I truly could not put the book down. I kept telling myself, “I can read one more chapter!” I love books like this. Always Watching is just such a FUN read.

Olivia and Wade are the main characters in Always Watching. Olivia is one cool chick, and it’s all believable. Once a police detective, Olivia now owns and operates the Elite Guardians Agency, a bodyguard company comprised of some seriously awesome women. Olivia is strong and smart and powerful, but she is also vulnerable and struggles with some serious issues from her past. I could totally understand her need to build up walls with everyone, including God, but I was really happy when she finally reconciled with God and brought some of those walls down. Those moments really made this novel a 5 for me. Wade is a man’s man. He is also smart, compassionate, and protective. This all combines to make one hunky male-lead! I appreciate his frustration throughout this book with not being able to control everything. What a relatable quality! However, Wade does come to realize that you just have to give everything over to God, which is one of the best themes of this book. The relationship that grows between Olivia and Wade is very realistic. They work so hard to be professional, but it’s quite obvious sparks fly from the very first meeting!

The suspense in this novel is intense. There are moments in the story where I could not breathe! It’s really one crazy thing after another with this story. The mystery, for me, was easy to figure out, but I wasn’t reading this book for the mystery. I was reading the book for a good, action-packed escape. And, boy, did I get that and more. Overall, I really loved this story and look forward to reading book 2 in the series. If you are looking for a novel to escape into that is a true page-turner, then I recommend Always Watching. You will not be disappointed.
