“The room glimmered with a thousand points of sparkling light, the bright glow from the enormous crystal-dropped chandelier glinting off heavily beaded gowns, ornate mirrors, and the desperation shining in dozens of pairs of eyes.”

Oh my goodness, I love Carolyn Miller’s writing so much. This single sentence alone is proof of her amazing talent. If you have not done so yet, I highly recommend reading the first book in this series, The Elusive Miss Ellison. Click here to read my review for book 1.

Now it is your turn! Grab the book you are currently reading, open to chapter one, and post the first sentence (or second sentence) in the comments below.

  1. London. May 1914. Rosemary Gresham may have been a thief but she was a thief who preferred to work in broad daylight. From A Name Unknown by Roseanna White! Loving this book. Can’t get enough Roseanna!
I wanted to be the first one to comment on first line fridays! Yay — I was!
I tried to at 5:30 am, my time but you weren’t there yet! ( hubby couldn’t sleep so after an hour of reading– he went to Walmart). Welcome,Welcome, Welcome!!!

    1. Hello Paula. I am very excited to read that book too. However, I need to quickly read another book first in order to give my review by deadline.

  2. Welcome to this super fun FLF group Nicole! 🙂

I’ve been wanting to read this book so badly! Luckily it was free for Kindle the other day so hopefully I’ll get a chance to read it. Great descriptions in that first line!

    Here is mine:

  4. I now have both of her books in this series on my Kindle to read in that “someday” when I get to it. 😉

After reading about ten fiction books in the summer, I’m taking a fiction break and reading non-fiction. 🙂 I’m currently reading “Arms and Equipment in the Civil War,” which is a super fascinating read that goes in depth with all of the weapons used, tactics used, etc.

    1. I totally understand needing a break from a particular genre. When you get to both books eventually, you will not be disappointed! The non-fiction book sounds fascinating. I will have to check it out!!!
