Life After (2017)

Life After (2017) is a stunning novel written by notable author, Katie Ganshert. This novel stands alone; it is not part of any series. The novel can be purchased in all forms, including eBook, and is roughly 352 pages (depending on the version you purchase). With a full-time job and a five-year old, I was able to read this novel in six days.  On a scale of five, I give the novel 6 STARS.  This novel is a clean contemporary Christian novel, but it does delve into issues such as death, tragedy, anger, depression, survival, and questioning God’s motives.

I had the immense pleasure of reading an advanced copy of Life After by Katie Ganshert. I was not familiar with Ms. Ganshert’s work prior to this novel. After reading this book, I went on to Amazon and purchased most every book she’s ever written! Each time I come to a new novel, I have the utmost hope that the book will charm me, engage me, and take my breath away. This novel does this and more. This will be a story that sticks with me long after I’ve finished reading.

“I guess that’s what life is though, isn’t it? A whole bunch of little moments that don’t seem significant or life-altering at the time, but when you look back…” She shook her head. “I don’t know. They become the most profoundly beautiful things” (146).

Life After is an amazing story. The characters are written true to life. The prose is written so well the pages just kept turning and turning. I had an exceptionally difficult time putting this book down. My heart broke for the main characters many times. I love how the characters found joy even in the midst of terrible tragedy, and I appreciate how true-to-life the various characters reacted to the tragedy. Nothing was whitewashed; every topic in this novel was dealt with in a merciful, realistic, loving way. I cannot say enough praiseworthy things about this book.  I highly recommend a box of tissue with this book!
